Content Marketing Strategies: Repurpose Content with Slideshare

In my last blog post I provided an introduction, definition and guide to one of the hottest topics in the B2B Marketing space: Content Marketing. In that post titled Content Marketing: The Engine that Drives B2B Marketing I noted that you’ll want to consider ways to repurpose existing content to make it more useful; more easily understood or simply more interesting, and that’s true. But there’s another reason to repurpose your content.

Let’s use the Content Marketing blog article as an example. We took the time to research and write the article, and then we made sure it contained the right key words so it would help us for search. We posted the article on our blog, shared it on Facebook, Twitter and via LinkedIn. But maybe you missed it or maybe you’re just not the kind of person who likes to read blog posts.

There are people who would rather watch a video or quickly scan a slideshow, and repurposing the content simply means we take that blog article and create something new, like a PowerPoint Presentation. By way of demonstration we created a Power Point Presentation based on the blog post.

But what can we do with a presentation that will allow us to reach more people? We can use Slideshare!

SlideShare is an online community where you can share PowerPoint, PDF, Video and Webinar presentations. And the site gets an amazing 60 million visitors a month, which ranks it as one of the 200 most visited websites on the internet.

By posting our new PowerPoint Presentation on Slideshare, we offer our potential clients a new way to interact us, we get a second use for the work we put into researching and writing the article, and we expand our reach to the 60 Million visitors slideshare has.

Upload PowerPoint, Video and PDF presentationsSearch for and View presentationsShare your presentations on Twitter, Facebook and LinkEmbed your Presentations on your blog or in your websiteCreate your own Channel just like on YouTubeSlidecast: sync your slideshows with sound

Here is an example of a slideshare presentation summarizing content marketing.

Content Marketing: The Engine that Drives B2B Marketing

Content Marketing Image

Every few years there are ideas that significantly dominate the “internet marketing” discussion. Mobile Marketing and Social Media Marketing are examples, and today the topic at the forefront of nearly every B2B (business to business) marketing discussion is Content Marketing.

David Kirkpatrick, Senior Reporter at MarketingSherpa recently wrote, “According to research from the 2012 Lead Generation Benchmark Report, content marketing was one of the top four channels for lead generation budgets for this year (2012). And, as a less quantitative measure of the importance of content marketing, it was featured in almost every presentation at the recent B2B Summit 2012, whether the main focus was lead gen, email, social media or event marketing.”

At the core of this trend is the fundamental desire for most B2B Buyers to conduct online research before we know they are interested in making a purchase decision.

According to SiriusDecisions 2012 – 70% of B2B buyers’ journey is complete before they ever become a sales lead. Which leads us to the fundamental question: “How do we influence a buyer before we even know who they are? Or if they are interested in our product or service?” For a growing majority of B2B marketers, the answer is Content Marketing.

Despite all the discussion and focus, there can be a lot of confusion around what Content Marketing is, and isn’t.

Content Marketing is not a direct sales tactic. It’s not fast, cheap or easy. Content Marketing is about understanding your target audience, systematically learning what pain they experience, what information they are likely to need at each stage in the buying cycle and then providing it to them, even if that information does not directly relate to your specific product and or service.

Content Marketing is about building a reputation within your market as a thought leader, as an information aggregator and as an industry collaborator. It’s about establishing a connection with buyers by providing information across multiple channels without the expectation of immediate gain or short term sales. Because in the process of helping your market, you are given the opportunity to build trust and respect with potential buyers in the first 70% of the buyers journey.

So let’s say you’re interested in getting started and you’re wondering “What’s the next step? In answer to that question we put together a 4 point list.

· Create a Content Needs Assessment: Reach out to your current clients and ask them a few questions about what information they found helpful or what information they wished they could have found during their purchasing journey. Try to gather information that corresponds to the stages in the buying cycle. You may also want to creatively envision an improved buying journey to provide information or help your current clients may not have considered.

· Audit your existing resources for content: Your website, blog, sales presentations, research and sales collateral materials are good places to look for existing content.

· Use User Generated Content (UGC): Social media networks are a good place to look for unsolicited testimonials and customer experiences.

· Repurpose The Content You Have: Consider ways to repurpose the existing content to make it more useful; more easily understood or simply more interesting. Using information you have to create a SlideShow, or a Video or Podcast are examples of repurposing content.

At some point you will have exhausted your existing content resources and the focus will turn to content creation, which is neither easy nor free.

Daniel Burstein, of MECLABS recently shared this three point strategy for content creation:

“Identify your audience and understand their needs. Everyone, everyone, everyone has pain points.”

“Invest aggressively. Social media, especially blogs, aren’t free, and they’re not even cheap. This may be as simple as investing your time in writing rich blog posts that address those pain points in step 1. It may be investing your Subject Matter Experts’ time on the blog. Or it may go so far as a monetary investment in a brand journalist or social media manager.”

“Focus on helping your customers, not selling. And for this reason…I do not recommend sticking a copywriter on your blog. But if you do, make it clear to that copywriter that the point of the blog is not to sell.”

Unfortunately, as Daniel points out, new content creation isn’t easy and it’s certainly not inexpensive. There is no magic bullet and it will take both time and investment. Because of this we recommend you make plan that identifies your most important content needs, and sets a realistic goal for steady / ongoing new content creation.

Remember Content Marketing is a long term effort and it’s focused on long term gains. Steady consistent progress is best. The goal is to develop trust and name recognition during that crucial first 70% of the buying journey, so that when they are ready to take the next step, they have been nurtured and guided to consider your solution set.

· 70% of B2B buyers’ journey is complete before they ever become a sales lead.

· Content Marketing is how we influence a buyer before we know who they are.

· Content Marketing is about understanding your target audience, systematically learning what pain they experience, what information they are likely to need at each stage in the buying cycle and then providing it to them, even if that information does not directly relate to your specific product and or service.

· Ask current clients what information they found helpful or would have liked during their purchasing journey to identify currently available resources and opportunities for new content creation.

· Mine your website, blog, social media, sales presentations and collateral materials for existing content.

· Repurpose existing content to make it more useful; more easily understood or simply more interesting.

· Invest aggressively in content creation.

· Focus on helping your customers, not selling.

· Make a plan for the consistent production of new content.

Celebrate Your Marketing?!

This guest post is by Karl Staib of Domino Connection.

Have you ever planned out your day and put marketing as the last thing on your list because you just can’t stomach another rejection?

I know I did. I have a popular blog named Work Happy Now that gets 15,000 visits a month. That’s due to backlinks, Google search, and social love. This happened because of my desire to build relationships with people. I didn’t force myself onto anyone. I connected with them via interview, guest post or Twitter. It was this kind of outreach that I enjoyed.

The marketing that I avoided was cold calling, cold emailing, and buying ads on websites. I just didn’t want to build connections with people who weren’t interesting to me.

You marketing should be a celebration instead of some stodgy task that you have to do to get a few sales. If you hate the kind of marketing you’re doing, your business won’t grow.

Think about it this way: everything you do is marketing, from a blog post to a conversation with another blogger. You are creating something. You can create something beautiful and memorable, or you can create something forgettable. It’s up to you.

In this post, I’ve put together a few concepts that you can use to delight and encourage people to talk about your blog.

Studies have proven when people receive an unexpected gift their dopamine levels skyrocket. Knowing this you can give someone an extra boost to your visitors. You may even want to include a little blurb about it on your blog.

I would suggest keeping track of everyone that leaves a comment on your blog for one month. The person with the most comments for that month wins a free ebook, ecourse, or something along those lines.

The idea is to keep it a surprise. I guarantee that person will keep coming back to your blog and leaving comments for a long time.

Throwing an online event is a great way to get people talking about you. The technology is so good today that you can do almost any kind virtual event. You can create a webinar, tele-seminar, Twitter party, Facebook giveaway, or a contest that engages people.

The idea is to build authority and friendships with your tribe.

An online event is cool because it’s not as stressful as a real-life event, but a live event has a few benefits.

I still remember my first tweetup with Robert Scoble. I’m not really a tech guy, but I wanted to see what a tweetup was all about. Robert was visiting Austin and put together a group of people to meet at the restaurant. He was a cool enough guy, but the best part of the party was the people I met. I still keep in contact with someone I met that night over five years ago.

By creating an event for people that allows them to bond, you are creating something worth sharing. Since Robert threw that Twitter party over five years ago, he gets a link from Problogger.net. That’s priceless.

My friend Colleen Wainwright created the 50 for 50 event. She promised to shave her head if she was able to raise $50,000 by her 50th birthday.

You should check out her link. She has an image of her shaved head on the page. She was able to raise over $50,000 for WriteGirl, a charity that helps young girls improve their writing skills.

Colleen gets the benefit of raising money for a super-cool charity, but also building her network. I know that’s not why she created the event, but it’s a nice bonus to have a new network of people to help you with your business.

It’s all about creating a story. If you can get people on board with your story, you are able to create an event that tugs at their hearts.

Chris Guillebeau created The Empire Building Kit to help people who wanted to create a lifestyle business that fits their needs. He wasn’t sure how to get people excited about it, so he went on a trip. His return trip stopped in Chicago and he wasn’t able to get a flight to Portland. His wife suggested that he take the train. At first he balked, but then he found out the train was called Empire Builder.

He then got a bag from Tom Ben called the Empire Builder. Chris realized that he needed to launch the Empire Building Kit while riding on the train back to Portland. He invited his friend J.D. of Get Rich Slowly and it kept building from there. He blogged about the whole trip, turning the story into his launch. A very successful launch.

Can you see how this story sucks you in? This is great marketing that can be a lot of fun. When you are planning on releasing something to the world, you need to have a plan that grabs people’s attention and makes them take notice of who you are and what you created. It’s a little more work than a standard launch, but very much worth your time and energy.

These are just a few ideas, but each of us has a different approach. What have you done to celebrate your marketing and turn it into a fun event?

Network Marketing Industry Tips

Network Marketing Industry Tips

Connect with people everyday. Even if they are not directly related to your particular network marketing business, getting in touch with other network marketers or internet marketers can give you marketing ideas and techniques that you may not be using. Other people in your industry can be a source of support and information as well so you can build your business even bigger.

Value your time and don’t repeat yourself. Create an FAQ page and don’t answer questions personally when the answer can be found on the page. Set aside regular times for your team to ask questions and discuss new trends, but instruct them to approach you only with problems and ideas not already discussed or answered.

My Father is an entrepreneur and he’s taught me a lot over time. One thing I learned just by eating dinner with him is that he claims everything. As long as you discuss your network marketing business at dinner, you can claim not only the bill but your gas costs to and from the restaurant!

One way to understand network marketing better, is to realize it is not an industry in and of itself. It is rather another form of direct sales. You promote the sale of goods for companies, and you get paid for that promotion. It is pretty simple, but can sound complicated.

Put your network marketing material EVERYWHERE! At your local church, in their newsletter, in a community newsletter, on forums, on Craigslist, even at the local supermarket on their community cork-board. The more eyes that see your promotional information, the more sign-ups you’re likely to get. Make sure you’re only posting it in places that are likely to get the right kind of people reading it, though. For example, a school probably isn’t the best place to post an ad.

If you want to keep your network marketing business vital, take a day off. Rejuvenating your body and mind can help you to think outside the box, be exposed to situations that will give you new ideas, and renew your motivation. One or two days off a week will benefit your business, so take it easy for a bit!

Be prepared to put a lot of work into your network marketing ventures. Though it may sound or seem easy, it will take much dedication on your part to learn what direction will be best for your particular business. Do not forget that the more work you put into initial marketing, the higher your potential return.

If Your Upline Doesn’t Have a Step-By-Step Blueprint for Success…

(Unless You’re Already Generating Too Many Leads)

Internet Marketing Conference = Lame Ass award

I have heard that the Internet Marketing Conference (IMC) came to Vancouver technical pace, so I made a proposal to speak at it. Any good watched the first. The opening address was delivered by Guy Kawasaki. I thought, much! I have again connect with guy and rewarding its Hawaiian shirts.

I have received a producer of Vancouver BMI, Lennart Svanberg, e-mail asking me how I would help in the entertainment market.I have answered back indicating what I'd do to help à.Il emailed to say that I was in an email more later, I was asked to make a 30 second video on speak me to CMT and.

I have the video and email the link Lennart and asked him for some tickets for full access to give (I thought 10).I thought it was a reasonable request. After all, I wasn ' t load BMI to give my presentation and they did not have to pay my travel since I live in Vancouver.Pour comparison, my trip to Affiliate Summit is to New York in August is fully funded and ASE has me always ten passes gold to give .j ' have received return email following Lennart.
